Pacific Pests, Pathogens and Weeds
Pacific Pests, Pathogens and Weeds

  • Narrow distribution. Only known from Solomon Islands (islands of Choiseul and possibly Malaita). On cassava. An important virus disease.
  • Young leaves with yellow spots and patches, distorted, often recovering, but sometimes severely stunted. Cuttings from infected plants develop slowly, and weight of stems and roots half those of healthy plants. Roots small, and woody when cooked.
  • Spread occurs as cuttings for planting; possibly nematodes.
  • Biosecurity: restrict movement of cuttings.
  • Cultural control: carefully choose symptom-free cuttings for planting; remove plants with symptoms as soon as seen, and burn them.
  • Chemical control: none recommended.
