Hi Syed,

This looks a lot like the banana skipper, Erionota thrax, or a closely related butterfly belonging to family Hesperiidae.

Kind regards,

It looks like a Matapa sp. (same tribe as Erionota, i.e. Erionotini). What was the food plant? Regards, Matthew Cock, CABI

Dear Syed Zahid Hasan,

It is most probably Erionota thrax, especially if it was found in rolled up banana leaf. I know the species from Indonesia.

Hope this helps,

Dear Syed Zahid Khan,

It is most certain that this is not the banana skipper, Erionota (Pelopidas) thrax.

Shukriya,

Banpot

I believe it is Ancistroides nigrita (Latreille). KInd regards, Matthew Cock, CABI.

Thank you, Matthew

I see from Butterflies of India that a common name of Ancistroides nigrita is the Chocolate demon!
