Eggs among aphids - India
Respected dear ones.
Again am sam from India-state Gujarat.

Recently-yesterday was moving in the fields of GOURD (CROP) with my 100x lens attached with my apple phone.

With god's grace came to my notice and thought of taking a photo snap.and got a few images captured.what noticed was that along the aphids colony we did not find any other insects.also we found a this eggs.

Can some one help whether are this the eggs of aphids or not?
regards,

SAM

Dear Sam

Immature aphid together with an insect egg a different insect.
Adult aphid, almost certainly Aphis gossypii Glover
Empty insect egg (not an aphid egg), possibly sucked out by a predator like an anthocorid bug
Intact insect egg (not from an aphid).

Aphis gossypii is a serious pest of Cucurbitaceae including gourds, cucumbers, pumpkins and melons, mainly because it spreads more than 50 plant virus diseases. There is lots of information about this species on the Internet if you search for the species name, e.g. see https://www.cabi.org/isc/datasheet/6204

I hope this is helpful.

Egg looks like a hover fly egg. The female fly lays its eggs near likely prey such as aphids. The egg hatches and breakfast is very close. Very useful foliage dwelling predators very common in vegetable crops in SE Asia. But very susceptible to insecticides. Can be very common and effective predators where broad spectrum insecticides are minimised.

No, none of the photographs show any parasitised aphids Gillian
